Singing Silent Night together on Christmas Eve is a very significant part of Christmas worship for many people. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when we're unable to sing together in person, we can still lift our voices as one, and can sing Silent Night together, even though we're apart. Here's how it works: Singers download the accompaniment track below, record themselves singing, and upload the recording to the parish's Dropbox account. Then we'll process the recordings and combine them into a distributed choir. Here's what you need: - A smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera that can record audio and video. (An external microphone is nice but not essential.)
- A second device that can play the recording
- Headphones

Here's how you do it: - Download the accompaniment track from the link below. Practice with the accompaniment track until you're comfortable with it. (We're working on getting accompaniment tracks for each voice part, and for four-part harmony, if you'd prefer to hear your part alone.. As soon as they're ready, we'll update this page.)

- When you're ready to record, set up your camera or recording device in a quiet place, and get ready to listen to the accompaniment track on your headphones. (That way the recording will only capture your voice singing, not the accompaniment).
- Start the recording, state your name and your voice part, and then start the accompaniment track, and sing along. After the accompaniment track ends, count two full measures of silence before you turn the recording off.
- When you're finished recording and you're satisifed with it, rename your file with your first and last name and voice part, with periods instead of spaces:
For example, Pastor Russ' filename would look like Russ.Crouthamel.Tenor.mp4. - Upload your finished, renamed recording using the link below:

The deadline for submissions for the virtual choir is Sunday, December 13, 2020. The finished file should be available for download by Saturday, December 19 for use on Christmas Eve worship services..
