First English Concert Series for 2013-2014

posted Oct 1, 2013, 11:46 AM by Pastor Russ Crouthamel

Another exciting season of concerts will be starting soon here at First English, thanks to the efforts of the Concert Series committee.  The 4 events scheduled for the 2013-2014 season include groups we have not hosted before, and span a variety of styles and backgrounds.

On Sunday, October 20th, 2013 the church will welcome musicians from Indiana University of Pennsylvania for a recital of solo and small-group pieces.  The concert begins at 3 PM; more details about individual performers and selections will be available at a later date.

In early December the choirs from the Queen of the World Roman Catholic parish in St. Marys, PA will present a concert of sacred music for choir and organ, as well as some organ solo pieces.  Members of our committee heard them at the dedicatory concert for their pipe organ, and knew immediately that they would be a delightful addition to our concert series.

On Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 3 PM the Qualitas brass quintet will return for an afternoon of brass and organ music, featuring our own pipe organ and Laurie Glover Spence along with the musicians from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Our series concludes with the Allegheny College choral groups in concert, under the direction of James Niblock.  They are especially happy to perform at the church of a former member of the group, Betty Lou Depp.  This concluding concert will be in April 2014, with an exact date and time still to be determined.

Please plan on attending these events that demonstrate both our congregation’s dedication to quality music of a variety of styles and our commitment to bringing quality music to the community as an outreach of our ministry.  All concerts this year will be free of charge, but an offering will be accepted to cover costs of each event.  In addition, consider becoming a sponsor of the annual series through the sponsor forms available at each concert and in the yearly brochure.
