For several years during the Lenten season, the Punxsutawney Parish has joined with the Indiana-Jefferson Cluster to raise money for the yearly Ark Challenge of Heifer International. For over 70 years, Heifer International has been finding solutions to end hunger and poverty. They have had an impact in more than 125 countries and helped over 22.6 million families, but there is still work to do.

You may wonder – what is given in an Ark? 2 water buffaloes, 2 cows, 2 sheep, 2 goats, along with bees, chicks, rabbits, and more totaling $5,000.

During the 40 Days of Lent, our members are being challenged to set aside a little each day to serve our neighbor in need. Giving 50a day for 40 days ($20) purchases a flock of ducks, chicks, or geese for the Ark. But any amount - 5a day or more can help in the purchase of an ark when combined with all the other churches in our cluster.

Our youth will be helping by making “coin banks” for members’ collections. Please check in the narthex in early March for a bank to take home. Or if donating by check, please add “Heifer Ark Challenge” to your memo line and offering envelope.

Small yet significant acts of giving, when combined together, become a powerful message of hope to our struggling brothers and sisters.
