Holy Week begins Sunday, April
13 with Palm Sunday. Liturgies will be held during the week as we journey
with Jesus from his triumphal entry into Jerusalem to his Last Supper with the
disciples to his suffering and death on the cross and finally to his glorious
resurrection.
Sunday, April 13 – Join us Sunday morning for
the traditional Palm Sunday liturgy. Liturgy will begin with the
Procession of the Palms. During the liturgy, the narrative of The
Passion According to the Gospel of Luke will be read (we will need readers,
so please sign up in the weeks ahead!). Liturgies will be at 9 a.m. at
Mount Zion and 11 a.m. at First English. Tuesday, April 15 – From 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
the doors will be open at FE for a meditative prayer walk through the Stations
of the Cross. This prayer walk will take us through the 14 stations of
Jesus’ journey to the cross: from his condemnation of death until his burial in
the tomb. Booklets will be available to guide a person in the prayer walk
and at each station there will be a pictorial representation on which to
meditate. Wednesday, April 16 – A spoken liturgy of Holy
Communion will be held at Mount Zion at 6:30 p.m. This liturgy will
conclude the sermon series on the Lutheran Confessions Thursday, April 17 – At 7 p.m., the traditional
Maundy Thursday liturgy with Holy Communion and footwashing will be held at
First English. Join us as we remember and meditate on the last night
Jesus spent with his disciples as he gathered with them to break bread, pray,
and wash their feet as a sign of what was to
come. Friday, April 18 – There are two opportunities
to worship on Good Friday. There will be a community Good Friday service
at First Baptist Church on Union Street. A liturgy of Tenebrae will be
held at FE beginning at 7 p.m. Come to remember how Jesus suffered for
our sakes to free us from our sin and to lead us into the resurrection of new
life. Saturday, April 19 – An Easter Vigil liturgy will be
held at 8 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Indiana. If you are interested
in attending, please contact Pastor Maureen to discuss carpooling
options. We will leave from First English between 6:30-6:45 p.m. that
evening.
