The Sundays after the Epiphany began with Jesus’
baptism and end with three of his disciples having a vision of his
transfiguration. In Luke’s account, the conversation about Jesus’
suffering and death is enclosed in a dazzling foreshadowing of the
resurrection. God affirms Jesus’ identity, the disciples are stunned
speechless, and Jesus resumes his mission with a demonstration of his power
over evil. Transfiguration will be celebrated on Sunday, February
7. On that day we will bury the “Alleluia” as we enter into the solemn
time of Lent. |
